Indigenizing Curricula in the Broadcasting program
Since June 2016, a colleague and myself have been, under the guidance of the Aboriginal Student Centre at Durham College, indigenizing the curricula in the Broadcasting – Radio and Contemporary Media program. The information gathered through this investigation will be compiled in a report that can be shared with other educators who wish to indigenize their programs as well.
Steps taken so far in this project include:
-revising each outline in the program to include at least one assignment that reflects indigenous perspectives. One assignment was launched this semester in one of the courses that I teach.
-participating in various workshops to learn more about indigenous culture and beliefs.
-organizing the production of two videos to help educators indigenize their curricula
