Approaches to Adult Learning

After taking two Master of Education courses specific to adult learning I feel I have a much greater understanding of the pedagogical approaches available to meet the needs of adults learners.  I felt it was important to take these courses to become better at teaching adults.  Along with these courses, I also have a Teacher of Adults certificate.  In order to obtain that particular certificate I completed seven courses related to teaching adults.

I feel that this professional development is closely related to Connectivism.  Connectivism is a gracious theory as it states that learning happens in many different ways though the creation of connections and by developing networks.  I feel the connections I have made between adult learning theories and how I am facilitating learning in the classroom are purposeful.  I look forward to learning more about adult learning in the future so that I, in turn, can become better at it.

I have included the following artifact in this particular area because I felt it provided a consolidation of many of the learning theories I have been exposed to in the courses I took pertaining to Adult Education.  This particular artifact was a consulting project assignment where I needed to address a problem that an organization was experiencing in the area of adult education.  As the “consultant” I was asked to analyze the problem and present some possible solutions via a report.  I decided to take this assignment one step further and actually create a report with text, images, video and audio in the form of a publication.
